Our Story

We both met after having neurosurgery at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Our connection grew on discovering we had the same neurologists and neurosurgical team, which gave us one that was different to other people within our lives.

Our shared desire was to give support to others who were going through the same journey we had been on. We kept thinking ‘what if we had spoken to another person who had had the same surgery as me’, would it have helped us feel supported and not as alone as people may find themselves feeling.

Therefore we approached professionals within NHNN, and shared our ideas, which were welcomed. Our research began, and what we discovered was the great desire and need to have emotional support for undergoing such a life changing procedure. This time not only for individuals having surgery but also for family members and friends who knew them.

Something that stood out was people wanting to hear others lived experience of surgery. They had received medical information from doctors, but the decision whether to have surgery was theirs. This is where Brain Buddy comes in.

We run London based talks that bring people together to share and compare their experiences, and we provide access to specialist information, support and contact with others affected by similar conditions.
